Day 5 - 15th February

Day 5 and all is well - even though everyone is wrecked! We started our day heading to St. George's for their sports day, which was so much fun!

They started with 100m sprint races for each of the classes, followed by lots of different novelty events such as the marble and spoon race, the "getting ready for school" relay race and the pass the potato race. The students competed in the novelty races in class teams of their house colours - red, blue, yellow and green.

All the kids were having such a good time, and like yesterday we continued the hand clapping games of "January, February", "Boom boom, Cha cha" and "Sister, Sister"! After the prize-giving , to everyone's delight, the music was turned up and the whole school got up and started dancing! It was so much fun, especially to see the massive smiles on the kids' faces.

At eleven we had our usual tea break, which was delicious as per usual, and then went back down into one of the classrooms to talk with all the teachers. It was really nice to hear all about how the school was run, and their perspectives and thoughts on all sorts of things, from the Indian education system to the current Indian prime minister. After that we had a really nice lunch, and headed off to the metro.

Once at the station, we met a lovely woman called Delia, who was to be our guide through the overwhelming Indian markets, and she was such a help! Although a lot of fun, everyone was truly exhausted after dragging ourselves through what felt like thousands of stalls, looking at endless rings, earrings and gypsy pants in 30 degree heat, all accompanied by the stench of goats!

Getting the metro back to St. Mary's was a hell of a journey, as at 6 o'clock it was peak rush hour - the train was packed to the brim! So much so that we couldn't even get on the first train and had to wait for the second. We could barely hold ourselves up on the short journey, and have never felt more relieved after stepping through the gates of St. Mary's.

  1. Hiya lovelies,
We've been enjoying the updates and following your journey on the blog. The locker room is quieter without you (and tidier @Caoimhe) but we have some new plants to decorate...
We hope you're having a great time and we miss you lots.
We'd love a piece of tapestry for the locker room or an exotic plant maybe.
We can't wait to hear more of your stories and the memories you're making.
We're all so proud of you, talk soon, lots of love, 5 Gold Rings.
    P.S. Mia's got the x-factah!!!!

    Dear girls,
I have spent 20 minutes with Mrs M "helping" me, trying to upload a photo that herself and Ms Cluskey took in RE. I'll send it to Therese for you instead :-)
    Hope you're all well.
    Mrs D. x
