Day 2 - 12th February

This morning two thirds of the group took the metro to St George's School. In the beginning, we played games outside with a few children from each class. We then took a short break before teaching a group of twelve children for the first time. We felt a bit overwhelmed in the beginning but once we got into the swing of it we really enjoyed doing word searches, flags of the world and diary entries with them. At the end of their school day, the children all enjoyed the bubbles in the yard that were donated by students in H.C.K. We got the metro home and met up with the rest of the girls who had spent the day in the Mary Rice Centre in St Mary's. Here they were showing the special needs children how to use computers, along with some basic English and maths. It was a really great experience to work one on one with the children, and the girls really enjoyed the few hours there. This was a new experience for them and it was very rewarding.

In the later afternoon, all 11 of us enjoyed a game of basketball with Brother Ronnie. It was very competitive but we all had a great time playing in the evening warmth. Two girls, accompanied by two teachers, helped at the soup kitchen that operates at the gates of the St. Mary's school. The soup kitchen provides a substantial meal for the economically challenged around the area, it was a truly eye opening experience.

After dinner we made a quick call home and had our first proper reflection. Here we got to talk and write in our journals about our experiences throughout the day.
